Who is the Tailor anyway?

The Tailor of Peterboro was started in a round about way by me, Jody Luce in the spring of 1999. Even though I had been making costumes for local theater groups, family, friends and of course myself for the past 20 years, I had not considered it a full time business. When the Smithfield Community Association contacted me about participating in the annual Civil War Weekend I jumped at the chance to be part of local history.
It all started with my son's wish to see the soldiers of the Civil War and has now branched out to a professional costume business. Even though Peterboro's heyday was during the Mid Victorian period I am well schooled in all time periods, the Renaissance being my favorite. Spending countless hours on research I have learned period construction, fabric selection and how to construct period correct accessories. Everything is in the details.
I have been involved in many a theatrical production. Not only designing and making the costumes but also participating as wardrober, stage manager, general stagehand and actress. Some of my performances include Moon Over Buffalo, See How They Run and Arsenic and Old Lace. Just a few of the shows I have costumed include The Crucible,  Romeo and Juliet, Diary of Anne Frank, and A Midsummer's Night Dream. Now  ambitions are taking me in the direction of producer and director. Costuming will always be my first passion and with "The Tailor" I hope to bring my passions to you.

The name "The Tailor of Peterboro" may have started as a tongue in cheek expression among the clients of Peterboro but it has evolved into a full fledged professional business. Once again the world will know Peterboro for the rich history it has through the efforts of the remarkable people surrounding this wonderful hamlet. Hopefully we here at the shop can help bring back some of the renown through costume and education.

Thank you for your continued support
